“O HEARKEN, all ye little weeds
That lie beneath the snow,
(So low, dear hearts, in poverty so low!)
The sun hath risen for royal deeds,
A valiant wind the vanguard leads;
Now quicken ye, lest unborn seeds
Before ye rise and blow.
O furry living things, adream
On winter’s drowsy breast,
(How rest ye there, how softly, safely rest!)
Arise and follow where a gleam
Of wizard gold unbinds the stream,
And all the woodland windings seem
With sweet expectance blest…”
Candlemas by Alice Brown
This year we’ll be hosting a Candlemas celebration open to the community:
Saturday February 2nd, 2013 6:30-8:00pm
Salt Spring Island United Church,Lower Hall, 111 Hereford Avenue, Ganges
Candlemas marks the mid point between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox. At this time we feel the sun growing stronger and the days growing longer. The seeds deep in the earth are beginning to stir. An ideal time to plant our dreams envisioned through the winter and give them space to germinate.
We’ll dip candles to welcome the returning light and create a family wish garden. Bring a simple snack to share and a mug for cider.
